There are many affordable housing opportunities in Thurston County and surrounding communities.
Housing Choice Voucher: The Voucher program provides an affordable housing subsidy for low-income households. You pay approximately 30% of your income towards rent. The Voucher program pays the rest directly to your private or non-profit landlord.
Collaborative Housing: We work directly with non-profit housing developers to provide a Project-Based Voucher. This program is very similar to the regular Voucher program. The difference is that the Voucher is attached to the apartment unit.
Housing Authority Properties: The Housing Authority owns many affordable housing properties in Thurston County. These properties are not subsidized, but they do offer rents at below-market rates.
Other Housing Options: There are a number of properties in Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties that offer subsidized rents for low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals or families.
Homeless Assistance: There are a number of nonprofit organizations that offer emergency and transitional housing for homeless individuals and families. Applications for this housing are through Thurston County’s Coordinated Entry system.
